It is virtually impossible to apply any kind of systematic organization to commercial reels since they were made to the client's specification and fall outside the standard View-Master numbering schemes for their respective eras. Those listed here are organized alphabetically by company, product, or subject name. They are considered by many collectors to be the most desirable of all reels for several reasons. These commercial reels were never made in large numbers; production runs often consisted of 100 reels or 500, that's it. The subject matter is interesting and that appeals to collectors. The are a unique look at the times.

Movie Preview ReelsIn the early 1950s, Sawyer's contracted with Hollywood movie studios to produce single View-Master reels containing previews of feature films, particularly those of the 3-D fad of the period. The unnumbered commercial reels were displayed in a special viewing cabinet in theatre lobbies. |

Rose Court Reels - Custom Made for the Rose CourtView-Master was very involved in the community activities of the Rose City, Portland, Oregon, and they took pride in choosing, yearly, a bevy of Portland high school beauties to be in the Rose Court. The Rose Court attended various functions including a ride on the Rose Court Float in Portland's Rose Parade as well as a special luncheon in honor of the Rose Court, hosted by View-Master. The choosing of a Rose Court started in the 1970s. And a tradition at the Luncheon was the presentation of special reels made up of shots of the View-Master plant and the Rose Court in their Rose Festival activities. At first, the reels were sets of 3 reels, but in the later years, only 2 reels were produced. Each year during the Festival a new Rose Queen is crowned. Chosen from the 14 members of the Rose Court representing Portland area high schools, the Queen travels throughout the United States as a goodwill ambassador for the state of Oregon Images on the reels show the Rose Court and their visit to the Plant. |
